GUEST BOOK
Thank you all for your wonderful Guest Book entries! They mean a great deal to the committee and to all the classmates! It is good to know you are out there. Go Bulldogs! You're the best!
Greetings Fairview Class of 66! I am the current Principal at Fairview Elementary and we are in the process of updating our website. Your class page is a treasure of Fairview's history and I simply had to take a moment to thank you all for the way you have documented the history of Fairview. Looking through the photos and reading about the school's history has been extremely helpful as I prepare to share the history of a place that we all hold dear to our hearts! Wishing you well Bulldogs!!! Angela Shelton
Hello from Jim at Dixie high schoolclass of 1959
Jeri/Dan, and whoever else puts this wonderful site together, I just want to say "Thanks for the memories." I had not visited the site in some time. I was really impressed by Dan\'s pieces on the faculty and Jeri you should get a medal for all the things you do in the name of Dear Ole\' Fairview. The bottom line is that the whole thing is well thought out. Thanks again, and now excuse me. I\'m going to step across the street to the Mascot.Ed Stout, FHS \'65
Jeri: I have just finished catching up on all the additions that have been made to the site and it's content. Boy, my hat is off to you folks who have transformed the Fairview66 site from a vision to what it is today: a wonderful link to our common past. Please also pass along my thanks to Dan Wolfe for his great story of a visit with Mr. Bruggeman, a teacher who made a difference to him. I marvel at the talent, creativity and dedication that continues to pour forth from our classmates. It was an honor to attend FHS with you all and I'll bet Nancy Marker would be as proud of you as I am. My very best regards, Marc
To the class of 66 just wanted you to know that Kerry Thompson passed away Nov. 26.2009. He had cancer for about 2 months. He went very peacefully. Keep us in your prayers. you can go to newcomerdayton.com Sue Thompson
Love this, my dad (David Handwerker) and mom (Brenda Deal) were grads. I am enjoying this site, thank you so much!My grandma was friends with the cook at Goody\'s and we have the onion soup and the butterscotch pie recipes as well.
Navigating the google maps, I tried to show my 8 year old son the school I spent the best six months of my life as an exchange student for over 30 years. I felt a strange pain of knowing that FHS was not there. Its like losing part of my story. Hope the change is for the better. Let's keep the good memories! Alfredo Franco, from São Paulo-Brazil FHS, 1981
Marlene, thanks so much for your kind words. The committee really apreciates it! It has been fun working on the site. It is wonderful to hear from you and hope we can get more classmates to make an entry on this page. Having many entries would be an interesting addition for other classmates. It's a great way to keep in touch with everyone. Again, so good to hear from you and thanks for writng an entry! Come on classmates — let's hear from you! As Marlene said, we may be 61 but we are the "new" 41. So let's show it. Go Bulldogs!!
Thanks for your efforts with the stained glass.
I just received a link to FHS\'s website from my brother who still lives in Dayton. What a wonderful trip down memory lane!I I attended Colonel White (\'66), but many of my friends went to Fairview. I live in Chicago. Would love to hear from any of my old buddies.Adrienne Kaplan Rainey
I am looking for Linda Campbell (Maiden Name) who I think graduated in 1965. Anybody know her? I hear she moved to Colorado. Thanks, Terry
I am a graduate of Fairview class of 1964. I was very good friends with Jim Romerill who married Kathy Music. I see you are looking for her. She lives In Cincy, in rather poor health. I hear she weighs approximately 80lbs. I had dinner with Jim Romerill the other day. We both live in Florida. Thought I would give you as much info as I can. Terry
Good work
What can I say? Words cannot express the emotions I am feeling especially when I saw pictures of Mr. Bruggeman, my Beginning French and Etymology teacher. The students in the class of 1966 might have been some of his first students but I was one of his last at Fairview. Oh, the memories of trying french dishes prepared by fellow students and learning the Greek alphabet. Don't ask me to recite them now!! The pictures of the 11/11/2009 Field Trip brought so much joy and sorrow to me since our school is slated for the wrecking ball later this year. I wish I could have been there. There is only one thing to say: "Add a webpage with links to other Fairview alumni sites, i.e., Facebook's Fairview listing, etc. and a page for alumni and staff that are no longer with us". Other than that, my heartfelt thanks for letting me relive some of my fondest memories of the greatest high school in Dayton.
Learned of the FHS demolition from Bill Wheeler. Sad day but lots of great memories, many brought back by this site. Regards to all.
Thanks to Mike Levitt - I just heard about the new website. It is really terrific. Thanks to all who have worked so hard to make this such a user friendly site. I look forward to checking in often to learn what people are up to. It is hard to believe that we are now 61 - but I guess since 60 is the new 40 - we are really only 41!!!
Dear Mary Ellen,Exciting to hear that you are concerned about the FHS stained glass windows. If you are talking about how the entire class of 1956 can help, the first way would be to spread the word about the \'66 website address (www.fairview66.org) and the Windows Page information on the site. Secondly, if you have connections to your class representative who has your class contact list, the windows committee could send out information to your classmates if we had a copy of that list or we can give you specific information to send to your class. We can use all the help we can get. You may contact me directly at wishingstar@columbus.rr.com. Donations may be made from the windows donation page on the \'66 website. I appreciate your concerns about the windows. Thank you for writing! Jeri Jones Bland, FHS \'66
1956 FHS...would like to stay informed as to how we can preserve FHS .....Windows...and all...please help us preserve the outstanding history and the memory of those who have given their lives for our country. God bless America.
I like your website. Thanks for all the info about the Stain Glass Windows. I was wondering what they desided. I set up a page on Facebook for the class of 1972. Hoping to get pictures old and new and get old friends together.
This page has brought back so many memories and given me ideas for the class of '80 - these photos made me fall in love with my hometown again. Thanks and hope to see you in September at the all class reunion
Hope you don\'t mind a member from Class of \'72 dropped in, but I have older siblings and cousins that graduated in the 60s and uncles and aunts before that. I think I have more memories from their high schools days than mine (siblings that is). It was great to see some of the old photo and landmarks of Dayton.
Just recieved this site and was glad and sad to see the demise of the beautiful old building. I left Dayton in 1961 and on visits back, my heart ached to see the city I loved change so drastically. Too bad for our history. Nice seeing names I remember. Please Ohioans, keep some of the good historical sites.
I just took the guided tour @11-11-09 Field Trip. God Bless those who put it together. This was my first look inside in 50 years. Thanks for the memories.
Hi Shelly from \'82!! Terrifc to see you on FHS \'66 site! Thank you! Yes, it is hard to beleive the FHS Final Tour and Auction will be coming up very soon. I will have more informaiton on the "Welcome" page of this website as soon as additonal information is confrimed by the DPS. I heard last week they may have to change the date. Let\'s keep in touch. Hello to all fellow Bulldogs! You might seem it odd that I, from the LAST graduating High School Class of Fairview is signing your guest book. However, it is with a heavy heart I have come to invite ALL ALUMNI to the FINAL walkthru a group of us have organized & to our surprise it iss 9/18/10. Doors open 10:00am - 6:00pm. Auction to take place-time to be determined. Possible picnic or function afterwards. I just wanted to be sure ALL ALUMNI are aware Fairview will soon be demolished after this date. Reunions may continue, but this will be our last day to walk down memory lane, so bring your cameras if you can make it! I\'ve thoroughly enjoyed your website!
A CLASS MATE SENT THIS TO ME AND I AM STILL READING IT. JUDY BISER CLASS OF 62' GREAT JOB , I AM HAVING FUN GOING DOWN MEMORY LANE.
Fellow Fairview Grads, Wanted to let you know of the passing of Fairview Basketball Coach Don Barger at age 85. Do you rember how he used to sit on the bench with a program rolled up and rocking back and forth during close games? Who will ever forget the team's great Regional Run in 1964...eventually losing to by a mere 8 points State Champs Belmont, featuring college all-americans and NBA players Don May and Bill Hosket. My Best to All, Bill Wheeler Class of 1965
I don\'t know a lot of the people from the class of "68". Do you if the class of "65" has a web site?
I didn't go to FHS but grew up in Dayton until we moved to Texas in 1973 when I was 13. My mother sent me the link to your site to look at the Dayton Memories but I have to admit I've been looking through all your sections for over an hour so far. What a great website with tons of history... very interesting and so well done. Great job!
class of 69--- 65 -69. hello to you all. say hi- id be glad to hear from you. i have yearbooks from67,68,69.--- who has the front gates to the football field?
Class of 1980. I truly hate not being there to see old classmates, friends and the school.
This site brings back many memories. I left Dayton in 1971 to join the Air Force after college. I find it hard to believe that the school will soon be gone. No matter where life may take me, I will always remember those I went to school with at Fairview High. As I look back, i realize that we were all family. There was no freshman to seniors. I communicated with everyone and I count you all as family.
I remember so many of you from band and other school activities. You have a great site and way to communicate. My long-time friend Bob Englert told me about this so I took the opportunity to check it out and I’m glad I did. Best wishes always.
I am so impressed every time I visit your website!! The site is just so full of memories and information about Fairview. All the contributors should be tremendously proud of what you have done. I can only wish that the class of “70” could develop a site even close to the class of “66”!!!
I attended Cornell Heights Elementary from 1963 to 1971 and would have been in the Fairview Class of 1976, although I graduated from Northmont. My father was Fairview Class of 1927 when the school was still housed in "The Tower." In the late 1980s, I was working at the Englewood Independent newspaper, where I often crossed paths with Bulldogs, including Harold Haas, whom I believe was class of 1920. Mr. Haas was a young boy during the 1913 flood and went with a neighbor who had a canoe to help rescue people. This was much to the chagrin of his parents as he did not tell them what he was going to do. They worried all day! He also had a great Don Longenecker story. The other thing is that Fairview may have been home to Baseball Hall of Famer Jesse Haines, although I haven't been able to find the information needed to confirm this. I interviewed his daughter who said that her father, who lived in Phillpsburg, may have gone to high school at Fairview due to no high schools open in his vicinity in about 1907-1911. He did not graduate from high school. However, that would make both Montgomery County Hall of Famers (he and Mike Schmitt) Fairview attendees.
I believe my Dad, John Raymond Rush graduated in 1931. Love your website.and all the pictures of all the buildings downtown. Thanks.
Walked thru Fairview after the auction, and stopped to look at the stained glass window. It really is beautiful. Too bad I had to wait to be 60 to realize that.
I went to Fairview elementary 1967-1973 and our family lived on Malvern Avenue. My Dad was Thomas James Henderson Jr. and he was a Fairview high school graduate, I am thinking class of 1947. I remember the old Fairview high school and driving past it many times in the neighborhood. Thank you for all of this wonderful information. It was great to visit here. Blessings to you all.
Hey Guy's, Your web site is spectacular. Just received an e-mail from Jeri I hope the info provided will help her in locating Jan Culp 63. I have been communicating with your fellow classmates and appreciate all the kind remarks these past few weeks. Let me know if any additional info is needed and I will be glad to make any contacts for you in order to build your web site. Jack
I am from the Roosevelt High class of 1945. If there are any other survivors please write me a note.
Who\'s out there? Bob
I just visited this site for the first time since it has been redone..kudos to all that worked on it and maintains it..
Hello graduates of Fairview High School. I\'m with the Class of \'65. Even though I didn\'t graduate with the class of \'65, I grew up with all who were a part of the years from \'61-65. In fact, some classmates date back to grade school, Fairview Elem. The "Steiner" family dates back to the late 50\'s and 60\'s. My brothers, Fred, \'61 and Doug, \'69 (I think) played football, basketball and baseball for many years. My sister, Connie, \'59, was a cheerleader for 3 years and was always part of the Maypole dancing group. She was also a member of the Ace High club! I played the saxophone in the concert and marching band and attended band camp for 3 years. Remember Mr. Griep, our band leader? He led our Scotchettes, Majorettes, drill team and band to many years of marching formations during half-time of football games at "Welcome Stadium". One year, we were invited to Cleveland, to strut our stuff during half-time at one of the Cleveland Browns game! What an honor! (I forget who the opposing team was?) Good times!!I\'ll have to write more about Fairview and all that happened throughout the years another time. But this brings back many memories.Thank you!Anita (Steiner) Kinderman
To all- Does anyone else remember when we were freshman, and Jack Berkmeier did the morning announcements, and came on and said "Good morning FHS, Today is S-H-I-T, Sure Happy It's Thursday"- and the loudspeaker went dead. It was a great introducton the humor of FHS! Andy
I was just looking again at all the wonderful comments so many of you have made. On behalf of the website committee, your excitement and kindness are greatly appreciated. Thank you and we hope you continue to enjoy!! We are! Jeri
What a wonderful tribute to my alma mater, class of 67. My dad, Jim Binkley, was an English teacher at Fairview. Dan Wolfe contacted me to find Dad. Sadly he died 5 years ago, but next week Dan plans to talk with my mom who is in Beavercreek visiting family. Dad loved FHS and he would be proud to be remembered.
What a wonderful time we had at the 50th class reunion this past September. The organization of the events were fantastic. Thank you to all involved with that. A lot of photos were taken and I know that Jeri Jones Bland is working very hard adding them to our website. I really enjoyed my time visiting with you all. I'm looking forward to our next get together. All best to my class of 1966 school mates.
As I will be out of the country the week of July 23-30, I am deeply disappointed that I won\'t be able to "crash" the Fairview \'66 reunion. I really looked forward to reuniting with some of my former classmates, fellow Boy Scouts and neighbors, especially since I was one of the few of you who went to Colonel White after we left Cornell Heights in 1962. I want to extend my best wishes to all, and please don\'t hesitate to contact me in the future. Charles(Chuck) Whistler 313-909-2906
