ROBERT H. GRIEP

Band Director at FHS for 33 Years

In addition to the marching band, Mr. Griep led the concert band and orchestra. One of his most prestigious honors was being selected as the state representative to the opening of The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington,D.C. Not only was this an honor for him, but a national recognition for Fairview and Dayton.

A Few Other Highlights of His Career

• Writing the fight song. Go, Fairview. It was recorded in the early 1960's.

• Starting the Scotchettes, one of the first drill teams in Ohio and designing their unique uniforms and dance style.

• Being invited to perform at the Cleveland Browns half-time game show, and repeatedly asked to return for repeat performances.

Mr. Griep graduated from Fairview High in 1936.

This info was submitted by Linda Griep Lee and Ken Lee, both FHS Class of '71. It appeared in the Fairview High School Alumni Homecoming Banquet booklet in August 2005.

SPORTS AND ATHLETIC EVENTS

Football was tough. Gymnastics was demanding. Golfing, tennis, track and field all called for concentration, focus and endurance. What we may not have noticed while we were having fun participating in all these sports was how we could push past our own boundaries, how we were proving to ourselves our real strength and stamina. We enjoyed (more or less) every touchdown, home run and race won. As you look at these photos, news clips and comments, take a moment to remember the enthusiasm, triumphs and lessons we learned then, and that keep on teaching us.
